Phil Heaton has been busy beavering away putting together a list of teams and sides that we want to invite to the 2017 Dancing England event. The list is looking very strong, and very entertaining. We’re planning an excellent mix of the Traditional and Revival, with certain teams being tasked with working together. We’ve some old favourites from Dancing England’s past plus some new, younger teams certain to delight and entertain.

There’s some cracking rapper on the list, excellent North West and Carnival Morris, Cotswold from the Cotswolds, clog dancers, Longsword from a team rarely seen, some Mumming, Molly, something unique and very English and a couple of folkloric customs not many of us have seen. Plus some fantastic jiggers and more.

Its shaping up to be a tremendous show!

Now to get busy inviting these teams and persuading them to take part.

Until next time

First post to get the ball rolling about Dancing England. Yes, it’s happening again.

After much hassling of a certain Mr P. Heaton and a long conversation with Mr John Shaw, it has come to pass that after 30 long and dry years; Dancing England will again take place.

Sadly we won’t be at the Derby Assembly Rooms, the scene of such previous triumphs from 1979 to 1987. Instead we’ll be at Sheffield City Hall on Saturday 18th February 2017, 30 years since the last one.

Essentially the event will be as follows (pretty similar to what went before); a strong mix of the traditional dance teams and the revival teams, the strange, the odd and the wonderful, illustrating the wide-ranging folklore and cultural heritage that England has to offer. Why not take a look at the Archive Acts page, where you can see posters from 1979 to 1987 and a list of the teams and acts that took part.

There’ll be a showcase lasting some two hours or more plus at least one ceilidh, plenty of real ale, stalls, merchandise and lots lots more.

Please could you help out social media-wise by Liking and Sharing our posts, but also by inviting as many people that you know to Like the Dancing England Page. Social media will be key in spreading the message and your support would be very much appreciated.

We look forward to informing you of what’s going on.

Till next time.
